Escentric 02 contains 13.5% Ambroxan in a formula designed to amplify its mineral note with hedione (green jasmine bud), a 'gin and tonic' accord, "and a hint of the Austrian lemonade called Almdudler". Schoen describes the final effect as "super-longlasting freshness into the drydown, with a subtle sensuality".

*13.5% is the maximum percentage of Ambroxan that can be dissolved in a fragrance compound. Any more, and the Ambroxan begins to crystallise out of the solution.

Molecule 02 consists of Ambroxan, pure and singular.

Ambroxan is a crystal-chemical structure identical to the ambrox derived from ambergris. For centuries, ambergris was perhaps the most prized ingredient in perfumery. It is a somewhat mysterious substance expelled by the cachalot or sperm whale, which only attains its fine scent after a long maturation floating in the ocean.

Ambergris is rarely found these days, and the 'amber' in a modern fragrance will be a lab-created equivalent of some of the aroma-molecules that make up its scent. By far, the finest of these is the nature-identical molecule Ambroxan. Ambergris was always valued for its refinement as well as its sensuality, and this quality persists in Ambroxan.

Ambroxan was isolated from plant sources in 1950.

The maximum percentage that can be dissolved in a fragrance compound is 13.5%. Any more, and it begins to crystallise out of the solution. Most fragrances with 'amber' contain 1-2%.

Molecule 02 is 100% Ambroxan in alcohol and a little water. This is best described as a fresh, almost mineral smoothness, which subtly expands to envelop you in olfactive layers of sensuous, sparkling molecules.

Molecule 01 + Guaiac Wood consists of Iso E Super + Guaiac Wood.

Iso E Super is an abstract synthetic molecule with a cedarwood tonality and a warm, velvety cocooning sensation.

Guaiac wood is an essential oil found in the heartwood of the Bulnesia sarmientoi tree that smells warm, smoky and woody.

Guaiac wood has one of the best dry-downs in olfactory alchemy, containing depth within itself, darkness, something grave, almost. Imagine wrapping yourself in olfactive layers of creamy warm whisky in the winter, and an emulsified smoke from the fireplace sublimates the room; that's M+ Guaiac Wood.

"Guaiac wood has the smokiness and aromatic quality of a great whisky, together with a creamy warmth reminiscent of the wooden casks used for the maceration of liquor. It has a gentle 'cocooning around the fireplace in winter' feel to it. It's like emulsified smoke that melts into the Iso E Super to make a skin scent that is super-sexy and erogenous," says Geza Schoen.

This moody M+ iteration packs a punch of volatile rum absolue at the top, which evaporates and gives way to a pas de deux of guaiac wood and Iso E Super — a noteworthy product that deserves to be added to your beauty arsenal.

The most minimal fragrance is a single aroma-molecule: Molecule 01. The next most minimal adds 1 to 01: 01 + 1. This is Molecule +.

Molecule 01 + Ginger consists of Iso E Super + Ginger.

Iso E Super is an abstract synthetic molecule with a cedarwood tonality and a warm, velvety cocooning sensation.

Ginger is extracted from the rhizome of the ginger plant with a fresh and spicy scent profile.

M+ Ginger stands out with its contrasting nuances that are as surprising as they are addictive. Strong yet soothing, peppery but effervescent, ubiquitously familiar and singularly imaginative.

"M+ Ginger oozes and boasts that simplicity of smell that people don't expect in any other fragrance. What's striking about ginger is how it combines a crisp and zesty freshness and peppery spiciness in one ingredient. I've always loved that.

When I smelt this new 'ginger oil fresh' from the Ivory Coast, I knew I had to do Molecule + Ginger. I also used a co2 ginger extract from China for a smoother, sweet aromatic ginger note, or as I like to say, neon fresh!

It is so clean, so pure, with a sharp effervescent quality that plays beautifully in the landscape of Molecule 01," says Geza Schoen.
